According to a recent study conducted by Blackhawk Engagement Solutions, consumers are more engaged than ever with stores, using mobile channels to enhance their purchasing experience.
The smartphone is the most used internet device, with 71 percent of respondents indicating it is the number one form of technology they use to access sales and store information.
The study found that:
- 54 percent of shoppers are more likely to use a mobile wallet, rather than a traditional wallet if it was more widely accepted. 20 percent said they would stop carrying a traditional wallet entirely if mobile payments were accepted in more places.
- 63 percent of respondents said they would consider allowing retailers to send offers to their smartphones based on where they are in-store.
- Most shopping is completed between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., after the workday is complete, although some do admit to shopping online while on the clock.
- Showrooming, or creating an optimal shopping experience from beginning to end, is an ingrained behavior. Shoppers are not only looking at what products are available in one store and purchasing immediately. Instead, shoppers are using mobile devices to check out the competition’s offers with 19 percent reporting they have purchased from one store while standing in another. Be sure to have inventory stocked and ready to go.
As these statistics indicate the use of technology in stores is essential for attracting and maintaining a customer base. Ensure your POS system is up to date and equipped with the latest features. If customers feel they are spending too much time in line, don’t have enough access to inventory shipments or mobile technology, they are more apt to not return.
