Mobile technology is changing the retail store experience for customers.

The emergence of mobile technology for vendors and other retail sellers is continuing to increase. There are many known benefits to this kind of change, including higher sales, larger profits and better capabilities, to name a few.

According to the global research and advisory firm for the retail and hospitality industries, IHL, some retailers have seen as much as a 25 percent increase in sales per transaction when mobile modes of checkout are used.

The IHL report has also found that mobile POS systems will expand by a projected growth rate of 21 percent through 2019 with most of the growth coming from enterprise-level customers. Tablets are projected to make the biggest impact in terms of numbers and service the study said.

Despite this increase in revenue, some sources claim that not all retailers are using the mobile devices as effectively as they should be. Research conducted by Payments Source has found that although many retailers are beginning to use these mobile initiatives in stores, they are being used as if they are just like stationary POS systems.

This does a great disservice to both customers and retailers alike. These devices can accomplish more than just regular checkout and pay services. If a mobile POS system is not being used to it’s full mobile extent, its value will fade, which is the last thing retailers should allow to happen.
